The Red Sox have a very expensive roster construction problem involving Masataka Yoshida and Rafael Devers. Even on this 2024 squad, which has enormous holes around the infield and in the lineup, it’s already proving mildly problematic.
But this is only the beginning. As time passes and the team moves towards its next contention window, the issues are only going to grow larger until a difficult decision is made. Simply put, at some point in the not too distant future, the Red Sox need to make one of these guys their full time DH, and the other needs to be traded elsewhere.
