Knee surgery for Mike Trout

Anaheim Angels outfielder Mike Trout needs surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his knee, it was announced today. Per the Angels beats, general manager Perry Minasian says it is not expected to be season-ending, but there is no timetable on his return.

This is simply the latest physical setback for the Angel All Star, who hasn’t played more than 140 games in a season since 2016, and who last had 600 plate appearances in a season in 2019. Trout played just 36 games in 2021, 119 games in 2022 and 2023 games in 2023.

Trout has played at an extremely high level when he has been on the field — his 858 OPS last year, which was first time he’d had an OPS lower than 991 since 2014, was still good for a 131 OPS+, and he had a 2.
