Shockers Stifled by Jayhawks

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Wichita State managed just three hits and did not score until the ninth inning in an 8-1 defeat to Kansas on Wednesday night at Hoglund Ballpark.

A mixture of four Kansas pitchers combined to hold the Shockers to one single, one double and one triple, the last of which came on a fly ball in the ninth inning that was lost in the lights. Kansas starter Evan Shaw (3-0) kept the Shockers off the board for the first five innings, allowing only two baserunners while striking out four. Scoreless innings from Sam Ireland and Cooper Moore kept the shutout intact before WSU got on the board with a Dayvin Johnson sacrifice fly to break up the shutout.
